At JE Consulting, we take pride in our diverse team, several of whom have stayed with us for many years.
This is especially true when we speak about our Admin and Events Manager, Lindsay Holloway.
With over 17 years of service, Lindsay has become essential in managing client events, from small workshops to massive three-day conferences.
Her expertise ensures smooth and successful events for all our clients, and if you’ve worked with her in the past, you’ll know she’s incredibly organised.
A day in the life of an events manager
Lindsay joined JE Consulting in 2007 as a Marketing Administrator, eventually transitioning to a full-time Events Manager role.
She says: “Over the years, I have been involved in the organisation of hundreds of client events.
“Since the Covid pandemic, we’ve had to adapt to the growing popularity of online webinars, but the organisational principles are much the same – it’s still hard work!”
One of the most critical attributes for an Events Manager is exceptional organisational skills.
As Lindsay points out, “There are so many deadlines to meet when organising events, that I have to manage my time effectively.”
The role demands meticulous planning and the ability to juggle multiple tasks, all while keeping a clear focus on the event’s goals.
A successful Events Manager must also thrive in a dynamic environment.
Lindsay enjoys the variety of the role, noting that “no two days are the same, and you are never bored.
“The constant change keeps the role exciting and demands quick thinking and adaptability.
“Collaboration is also key, as my success depends on seamless teamwork across various efforts, from marketing to logistics.”
The role has evolved significantly, especially with the shift from in-person events to virtual platforms.
“My job has changed quite a lot in the last three to four years, partly due to the knock-on effects of COVID.”
She highlights that staying ahead of trends and mastering new technologies like Zoom and Teams is crucial for success in modern event management.
Do you need an events management degree?
Successful Events Managers often come from diverse backgrounds, bringing unique perspectives to the role.
Lindsay, for example, has a degree in Animal Welfare and Management, an unexpected background that adds to her versatility.
Reflecting on her journey, Lindsay says, “I never imagined that my degree in Animal Welfare would lead me to a career in events management.
“However, the skills I developed – like attention to detail, problem-solving, and working under pressure – are directly applicable to the role.”
This diversity is what allows Events Managers to tackle the unique challenges of each event, blending their varied experiences to deliver success.
“Having a non-traditional background has actually been a strength,” Lindsay notes. “It enables me to approach problems from a different angle, and I often find creative solutions that others might overlook.
“In event management, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and a varied background can be incredibly valuable.”
What makes this job so great?
Lindsay’s career is marked by significant achievements, such as organising a client conference in Brussels entirely on her own, overcoming language barriers, and hosting the event.
“That’s what makes this job so enjoyable, it’s dealing with challenges!
“You get given a challenge and your job is to find a solution that benefits the clients and fits in with their busy schedules.
“I think it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do, looking back on the events you’ve had a hand in creating.”
Lindsay captures the essence of her role at JE Consulting with three words: “Variety, Teamwork, Driven.”
